The Asian Super Model Contest 2011 was held from 27 August to 6 Semptember in Guangxi and Nanning, China. There are 36 contestants from 10 asian countries (Bashkir, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam) to participate the contest. Xin Ray from China was crowned Asian Super Model 2011 on September 6, 2011 in Quangxi, China during the contest.

Pushpika Sandamali De Silva was crowned as the new Derana Veet Miss Sri Lanka for Miss World 2011 at the Galadari Hotel in Colombo on May 19, 2011. She is 21 year old and will represent Sri Lanka in Miss World 2011 in London, England on November 8. Shimalka Bodaragama and Chamupa Godage were the runner-ups.
The winner is an actress and model from Colombo.

More than 40 top local and foreign models and 200 leading local artists will wow audiences at the fifth annual fashion event called Dem hoi chan dai (Leggy Night).

The fashion show will take place on May 15 at Ocean Club in Ho Chi Minh City. Fashion lovers will be charmed by Vietnamese-American designer Cory, who is well-known as the custom gown designer for Miss Vietnam Global, Miss Asian American and Miss San Francisco. The latest outfits from Just Cavalli and Bon Mua (Fourseason Global) will be showcased. Pham Hoang Nam, noted for directing such local extravaganzas like Dep (Beauty) Fashion Show 8 in 2009, is directing this years “Leggy Night” for the first time. Young Vietnamese, Korean, Singaporean and British models will walk the ramp in lastest designs. Nam hopes to make new breakthroughs with some exciting new surprises. Venus Model Company, pop star Ho Ngoc Ha’s will be back on the catwalk and it is always one of the high points of the show. Ocean Club is located at 5 Nguyen Tat Thanh Street in District 4.

In 2005 she was chosen as the official Wonderbra model. Nowadays she spends most of her time working in Europe and the United States. In 2006 she was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated in South Africa, and in the same year, as a newcomer, she came second to Durban model Carla la Reservee in FHM South Africa’s Sexiest Woman poll. Only two deserve supermodel title in Vietnam

It’s ironic that there are more “supermodels” in Vietnam than the rest of the world combined, said Thuy Nga – director of Vietnamese Elite Model Management Company.

Nga said never in her life has she seen the modeling market in Vietnam in greater chaos. In an interview with The Thao Van Hoa (Sports and Culture) newspaper, Nga said only two local models deserve the ‘supermodel’ title for their talent, modeling experience and professionalism, namely Ha Anh and Thanh Hang. Ha Anh was a professional model with a UK-based fashion company and had a steady job in the UK. She has also won several performing contracts in other countries. Hence, she has learned a lot and developed professionalism for the job, Nga said, adding that Ha Anh is more polite and friendly, more punctual than other Vietnamese models, always meet the expectations and demands of fashion show directors.

On April 19th, model Kim Yuri has been reported to have committed suicide through the consumption of poison.

 Kim Yuri was rushed to the a medical center in Samsung-dong, Seoul after her suicide attempt was discovered, but reports later revealed that she had unfortunately passed away. Her wake has not yet been prepared. It seems fans were alerted of the pain she was undergoing, as just a few days before, she had written on her mini-homepage, “No matter how many times I think about it…. Over a hundred times…. I’m the only one in this world.” Born in 1989, Kim Yuri was an English major at Hanshin University before making her modeling debut for various high-end brands like MCM and MAX MARA, as well as fashion shows like the Seoul Collection and Daegu Collection. Netizens have been expressing their grief through her homepage and various community boards, as she was one of the models with the brightest future ahead of her.
